Hello Richard,
Congrats on your fine new camera. You can call Olympus at
1-(800)-622-6372 and order a new manual (mine was n/c). As far as
batteries, well- that's a long story. It's SUPPOSED to take a mercury
battery (px625), but they've been outlawed in many states. You CAN use
an alkaline 625 battery, but BE SURE it's a 1.3 volt, NOT a 1.5. The
problem with these batteries are they will die off slowly, giving you
a less accurate reading as it does. Another choice is the Zinc-air 625
battery which acts more like a mercury (dies off suddenly). The downfall
here is that they're harder to find, cost more, and last only about 4
months. The ultimate problem solver is available through John H. (is it
not? ;)) . It's a device that will accept 367 silver oxide battery (1.5 v)
with a diode to bring it down to proper voltage. This insert costs roughly
$30.00, but the best choice in the long run.
enjoy,
Brad
