I wonder how much OLY actually lose on the OM line, I know they're in
business to make a profit but the losses cannot be significant for a
company that size. The commercial reasons for keeping it alive, for
professionals and medical profession, must have an indirect benefit to the
company. David Bailey is never seen nowadays with an OM4TI, I wonder how
many professionals still use the system, not many I suspect. Anyway I still
think I'll break the bank to supplement my (OM) system with some more brand
new items from the US, keep me going for 5 years. Then I'll see whats on
the market.
Anyway as I suspected low demand is both the cause of prices increases and
uncertainty about the future, we cannot really blame OLY for that. I
suppose we can blame them for not producing a successful AF camera, they
were too late on the market with poor product.
I know this list is mainly concerned with disseminating technical
information about the use of OM items, however we should be more concerned
about the future. OLY are only reacting to inevitable market forces, it is
up to us to help them create the future we want.
