Stephan,

I have the BG2 and the T32 and used them as combinations many times.
Yes, it was awkward for me to use the BG2 when I purchaed it several years
ago as you describe above. The main reason for acquiring the BG2 was
to get faster charge recycle time without using additional battery packs
for wedding/reception candids I did some time ago.

Like you say, I did not like its design for it was intended for the
combination of the M.grip cord and Winder2/MD2 set-up. Also when you
add four 'C' size and 'A' size batteries in the BG2 and the Winder2
respectively it was like holding a mini barbell steadily.

Since I'm right-handed, what I usually do is the following for the
T-32/BG2 combination:

Scenario 1 - candids without tripod

1. Attach T32 to the BG2 flash socket and connect T0.6m cord between
the sockets at the base of the BG2 grip and the camera (OM-2n or -4Ti).

2. Install the camera on BG2 bracket with the flash gun mount on the left
side of the camera - film rewind crank side. Then rotate the head of
the flash gun 180 deg. so that flash will be facing the subject.
When installing the camera on the bracket, I mount the camera such
that it is situated farthest from the grip (easy for doing step 3).

3. Rest the base of the BG2 grip (base of the battery compartment)
on top of the left shoulder or collar bone where I feel comfortable
to peek into the viewfinder. By doing so, I can use my left hand to
hold the lense and focus while my other hand can be used for aperature
ring/shutter operations. It took me some practices, though.

4. The above step (4) is for the horizontal shots. How do I do for the
vertical shot ? There is not good solution for me at the moment.
Rotate the entire set-up such that the flash gun comes top of the
lens. Then by using my left hand I prefocus and move the hand
at the base of the bracket (the bracket is now vertical, left side)
to steady the camera/BG2. With my right hand holding the right side
of the camera (shutter release side is facing the floor), I use the
index finger to shutter release. This also required me some more
   practices.

Scenario 2 - portraits with tripod

1. Attach T32 to the BG2 flash socket and connect T0.6m cord between
the sockets at the base of the BG2 grip and the camera (OM-2n or -4Ti).

2. Install the camera on tripod. Detach the camera braket from the
BG2 grip (don't need the bracket since the camera is mounted on tripod).

3. By doing above, I can hold the BG2/T32 with my hand and move anywhere
(within the limit of the T0.6m cord length) around the camera, since
the camera is mounted on tripod. Thus, I don't worry about the red eye
   problem.

In both scenarios I usually do not use Winder2. So, I don't need the M.Grip
cord. In scenrario 2 I usually use shutter release cable such that I can
watch the subject at the time of the shutter release.

Jim Terazawa
