I do have this lens. It deserves a place in my default non-AI set, but
sometimes I leave it at home for a safer 20mm when I go out (not very often
with the hefty non-AI items). It was a favourite for my family parties, but
nowdays I prefer using Zuikos... big smile...
According to "Subjective" by Ruether this lens deserves a 3, that is fair
average and very good at one or two apertures. Better is evaluated (4) the
AI version, with an explicit reference to eveness from center to corner.
I think 28/3.5 image looks very classic, "Magnum" so to say.
