Leica-made coolness comes with a steep (shocking?) price tag. Here
are a couple of tips for 'coolness on a budget', applied to Zuikos.
For 49mm filter thread lenses (28/2, 28/2.8, 28/3.5, 35/2.8, 50mm),
look for the following:
- SMC Takumar 28mm F3.5 (screw-mount) hood
- Fujinon 28mm F3.5 (screw-mount) hood
For 55mm filter thread lenses (24/2, 35/2, 55/1.2, and also Vivitar
or Kiron 24/2 and 28/2), look for:
- Konica Hexanon 24mm/28mm hood
- Konica Hexanon 35mm hood
All four hoods are all-metal, of the snap-on variety, and are SQUARE
(well, they're actually rectangular, but it's uncool to dwell on
such details :-)). The Fujica hood is the least common one (as are,
btw, most Fujinon screw-mount lenses -- has anyone seen any lately?)
Unfortunately, all four hoods come exclusively in jet-black -- a color
that may clash with your surf- or snowboards :-)
Cheers,
