The lay-out you have drawn is alright.
The shoe-3 has only two contacts on top, like this:

Shoe 3
The third contact (flash ready signal) as on the grip and the shoe 4,
is not connected on the shoe 3.
About the cost: A used shoe 2 is roughly the same price as a used shoe
3, about $15-25, depending on condition. Both are rather often for
sale, at least here in Holland... so if you want me to look for one?
