I believe it is called " barrel distortion " where vertical image near
right/left
edge of the film frame distort looking like whisky/wine barrel. I think all of
the lenses (used in SLR or P/S lenses, at least as I know) have some barrel or
pin cushion distortions regardless of focal length. As I understand, generally
speaking, the zoom lenses are more prone to these distortions.

When I do indoor snapshots/portraits with my 24mm or 35mm lenses I pay attention
to any straight objects and try to make them straight by tilting the camera or
avoid those objects in the frame.
