Sounds about right to me. I would only 'scale back' the OM4Ti to the extent
of using aluminum instead of Titanium. Other than that, List price of the
OM4A would be $999. Street price down to $699, my price at a friendly camera
store $775 out the door w/ tax, tags and dealer prep. While they're at it
they could do rear curtain flash sync as the look is in vogue now. OM5 should
really be a "bridge" camera (to AF, not to fixed snout zooms, they've already
crossed that "bridge" and no one followed) , with a decent autofocus system
backward compatible with MF lenses (with an adapter perhaps, recall the 39mm
screwmount adapters Leica offered to move its customer base on to the M3?).
OM6 would be the Nikon F5 killer. Oh, and might as well crank out an OM3A in
aluminum to remind the nostalgically minded how good the original OM1 was.
About 75 dollars less than the OM4A.
The new OM4A and 3A will of course be launched concurrently with an OM system
compatible digital back. The magazine writers would be jazzed to the max with
this combo. Olympus can make its bucks on the digital backs.
I await Olympus's retainer check for my consulting services.
