Thanks for looking and commenting, Ken. While, in my later working
career, I managed a branch responsible for operating and maintaining
millions of dollars worth of unique USAF testing facilities, I treasured
most my working relationships with the guys that did the hard work. I
am a believer in "managing by walking around", and I tried to spend some
time each day (or night) getting out in the field and in the control
rooms to find out how the work could be improved. You meet a lot of
different people that way, and pick up a lot of ideas.

I was struck more by how software has improved since then than how much cameras

I do! I do!
And best of all, the improved software allows me to use the E-1 again
for a lot of what I do. For example, next time I want to splash a
camera with waves in the Cook Inlet, I can do so with the E-1. The
very latest upgrade to Lightroom now includes the famed image uprez
enhance software that all the television crime scene investigators
have been using for years. Yay!
I appreciated Jim's picture, not because I know any of the other guys,
but the fact is that I appreciate Jim, and if it's special to Jim, I
want to know the stories the photo represents to him.
