This is what we used when I worked in forestry. Pretty old-school though. Now they probably use a heads-up display in
their hardhat with blue tooth to the trimble. Just look at it.

This is what we used for ages in the camera room, although I think it is a Stanley. Accurate, indestructible. Came home
with me when we shut down that operation, and I still use it occasionally. You don't need a magnetic base with trees,
but it's useful elsewhere.
Nevertheless, setting Mode and pushing the measure button twice is hands down
quicker and easier.
