We're almost entirely salt-free in our road maintenance here in
Alaska. Several reasons for that, but moose are a primary issue. Does
it make a difference not feeding the moose? Yes! Hugely so. On the
flip side, though, we probably make up for it in other forms of
accidents. And we still have a large number of moose-car accidents.
But we have more moose than squirrels. They're also usually more
dangerous than the bears. We've had moose attacks (sending people to
ICU) within a mile of our house every year we've lived here. It's a
little concerning to me because I walk almost every evening during the
nicer months.
