<<But there's a tech problem with it on Google Photos. All the glory of the
lens is lost in translation. It's quite soft. When I download it, I get an
1800x1195 image, with pretty decent detail. But <<It does seem that you may not
resharpen after downsizing for the web?
Less so on smugmug. Until a couple years ago one could control the downsample
sharpening for each image and keep it pretty much as desired.
They dumbed it down now and use Lanczos algorithm at 20% no matter what--works
most of the time. They previously used Image Magik and could control its
parameters including Amount, Radius, Threshold and Sigma. The original sized
one submitted is untouched. If wanted to change it to a new gallery default,
just had to rotate it and rotate it back. If changed the gallery settings,
only newly uploaded ones used the new gallery settings, so had to plan a bit.
Seems foolish to eliminate this flexibility as the default was fine for most
and could be ignored for those not wanting to bother. Got to wonder what they
were thinking sometimes.
Sharpen to taste is best, Mike
