That is usually my preference too. Once in a while I like wide-angle
lenses for close-ups, where I can get up close and personal and add
some "placement" for the subject. But for the most part, longer
working distances are the domain of longer focal lengths, which
provide a much narrower and selective background. It's easier to
declutter the image this way. The practical issues of not being quite
as close to critters helps too.

I actually used the E-1 with 50-200 SWD combo last night! Yummy
images, but I'm forgetting that the E-1 doesn't have heated seats,
cruise-control, or automatic transmission.
