It's not that great a surprise, as the climate scientists have been
telling us for some time that the American southwest is very likely going to be
the first area to suffer significant impacts from global climate change.
This July was the hottest month on record, and it doesn't stop there.
We're well on our way to having the hottest summer. We're setting new
temperature records weekly, including the most number of mornings at or above
90F. Last week we broke the record for the most number of days at or above
110F (which continues), and today we will break the most number of days at or
above 115F. Our average high for this time of year is 104/105F.
We've only had 0.10" of rain for the "monsoon season" so far, which is way
below average. There isn't even any appreciable forecast of moisture for the
next two weeks, and the season comes to an end in six weeks. We had an
opportunity for rain yesterday evening, but when the moisture mass entered into
the area the high evening temperatures caused it to dissipate rapidly.
