But that would cause anything light-emitting to show motion blur, whereas the
digital clock does not, and some of the non-bright things at the bottom do.
So I'm thinking vertically-travelling focal-plane shutter (in combo with
aforementioned incomplete flash exposure), and the camera was jostled just
before the second curtain closed.
