Things have changed a lot in 60 years. I got my pilot's license in 1958
and, in July of that year, took my wife and two sons on a weekend visit
to Memphis, landing at MEM. The young kids enjoyed the zoo and playing
on the cannons in the parks. My wife and I enjoyed eating Shrimp Creole
at Madison Seafoods, downtown.
Even if I still had my Medical Certificate, I wouldn't want to fly into
that mess today.

Your story reminds me of Memphis at certain times every day, as a

You don't need to tell me about it, I've lived it! Years ago, I was in
Memphis on business. They had booked me in to a hotel under the
outgoing flight path. Starting before dawn, pairs of 727s flew over
under full power every few seconds.
