Moose, we are in a more secluded setting than the Bay Area. I'm not
suicidal, but, as you are aware, I am turning 90 in a week, and went
into this period of adversity having just faced a round of surgery with
skin cancer, and having chosen not to take the treatment any further.
At this stage, I will choose my battles, and will keep in mind the
quality of life I will face in my remaining time. That said, it
appeared that the shoppers I encountered this morning were aware of the
danger and were adhering to spacial guidelines. Most of my purchases
will sit in the cupboard or freezer for several days before use.
If I were in New York, I would probably plot a different course.

To the best of my knowledge, we have no COVID-19 cases in our
county. I made my every-two-weeks trek to the grocery this morning,
and, at 10:a.m. on Sunday, there was no crowd. Things were fairly
well stocked except for paper goods, and sugar. I got one of their
few bags of sugar, and the manager said only a few are coming in.
No one was using masks or gloves. The checkout stands do have
plastic barriers between the checker and the customer. People were
spacing out properly, and things were going smoothly.
I am perhaps too easily bemused. This stuff kills, and does so
disproportionately for the elderly and apparently esp. male elderly.
Why would anyone NOT wear mask and gloves when shopping?
I finally saw an article questioning the WHO and CDC assertions that
masks are not necessary for those not ill. They are people focused on
overall, average outcomes, not whether the low odds happen to come up
for me - or you.
Wow, we get to see Thursday's junk mail today, and use groceries from
our Thursday shopping. Anything that's come into house or garage, by
glove wearing us, sits for four days before being touched again. If
something is used earlier, it's disinfect the item and/or washing the
hands that touched it time.
Good luck to all in beating the odds.
