Do they have a way to save weight in the driver? ________________________________ From: olympus <olympus-bounces+pearce=kmuw.org@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> on behalf of Ken Norton <ken@xxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, January 9, 2020 4:49 PM To: Olympus Camera Discussion Subject: Re: [OM] Move to Alaska and... > Am I correct that that probably means that the plastic did not absorb much > energy and would not have done any better in a higher speed encounter while > still cold. Is the X5 designed to meet any passenger safety requirements > of US laws without a contribution to energy absorption from the plastic. BMW manufacturers the X5 front end with everything outside of the frame structure as a prefabricated plastic assembly. It has no structural strength and contains no metal other than fasteners. All the safety structure is contained in the main body assembly. This design saves hundreds of pounds in the vehicle.
