What’s left of al of this?
If I may ask :-(
They already did that, and much of it is still there. What is no longer there is gone because buyers didn't appreciate
those virtues enough to buy enough cameras to keep them going.
Sure, Oly's latest flagship is a monster. But the E-M5 III is very capable camera is a slightly smaller package than its
modest size predecessor. The E-M10 III is even smaller and lighter.
Yup, Panny's flagship still camera, the G9 is almost certainly larger that its capabilities require, and has a (to me)
superfluous top deck LCD. But the GX9 brings virtually all, all I need, of the G9's capabilities in a small, light body.
They are following the sales/money. People are buying the larger cameras, likely at higher margins, in quantities that
make them profitable.
Same thing for lenses, except most of the early, small/light lenses are still available. But there is already a vast
array of those. O&P tried a couple of super fast, big, heavy, expensive lenses. obviously, they were successful. or they
shouldn't have been followed by a bunch more.

Camera's and lenses are not above physic laws, and most differences are not
very difficult to explain, like the difference between the PanaLeica
100-400mm and this new Olympus 150-400mm.
In this case the built-in converter and higher constant speed of the latter
(and the ambition of Olympus' Pro line) explain most of the size and weight
differences. For other systems, show me a 200/300 - 800mm FF equivalent
native zoom?
I'm with Frank on this. Although I would add the speed qualification, as well. "show me a 200/300 - 800mm F4.5 FF
equivalent zoom?" And add, ". . . and built-in teleconverter for 375-1000 mm F5 zoom range?" Oly also announced a
compatible 2x teleconverter.
Assuming it's as good as Oly predicts, this lens will be a tour-de-force, delivering exactly what you ask about, but
relative to FF super teles and super tele zooms, not the more ordinary stuff. Except, of course, much better IS, with
Oly's Sync IS
I have zero interest in such a thing. But that doesn't stop me from being impressed at what they are trying to achieve.
OTOH, I'm blown away ( and terribly spoiled) by the capability for hand held super zoom of the PLeica 100-400. There is
nothing remotely similar in size/weight, and zoom range for FF.
The Fuji 100-400 is nice, but in comparison, larger, 50% heavier and 150-600
mm EQ, vs 200-800 mm.
Promise fulfilled Moose
