And of course, the OM tubes lose their “auto-ness” on the Sony.
It does seem odd, but neither has Olympus done any extension tubes since the
EX-25 on 4/3rds. Perhaps manufacturers these days see extension tubes as
competition to selling more lenses.
The nice thing about the OM tubes is that they were thinner than the standard,
third-party tubes. I especially enjoyed putting the 7mm tube on wide lenses to
see what would happen.
I don’t have a Sony, but I find the third-party auto tubes for Micro Four
Thirds to be adequate - and cheap! I have an extra set that I intend to cut in
half and mount either end on the Olympus Telescoping Extension Tube, and
connect the two bits with a coily cable - I found a coily HDMI cable with
enough wires to connect all nine(?) contacts.
But that sits in my over-flowing "project bin,” staring at me accusingly, while
things like broken tractors and mowers get all my attention. :-(
