And don't forget old clapped out Aero Commanders. Some of them still flying.
Whatever you feel about the caravan's lack of speed, the whole aircraft was
speced out be Fedex.
but I expect the coming Sky Courier will be able to support more versions.
Although there are some really biv PT-6's out now, I dont think there is enough
HP to overcome the Caravan's drag.
I'm not sure there will ever be anything else that will last as long as a DC3
or a Beech 18.
You would be surprised to learn that our county Sheriff has an airplane used
primarily for prisoner transport. A Turbo Commander. that is likely
unconstitutional punishment.

going to be. Initially, many Cessna upper management didn't believe there
would be a market for the caravan after the first 125 went to Fedex, and
were fine with that.
I find it remarkable that Cessna management didn't see the potential
market for the Caravan. But in all fairness, the 4xx series of twins
were the meat and potatoes aircraft in that entire market segment. Who
would have guessed that one turbine was going to be as acceptable (or
preferred) to two piston mills hanging on the wings.
Especially considering that the Caravan is an absolute dog in airspeed.
When the Caravan entered the world as a freight dog aircraft, the
night was owned by Beech 18s, DC3s, and Cessna 4xx.
