I must have read something similar to this earlier. That techjunkie page
was written for Win10, but I found the Win7 equivalents.
I was looking for an upgrade from IE11, but it seems that Microsoft never
did that, instead coming up with something similar that is for Win10 only, and
it bypasses the hosts file just like Firefox and others.
I really miss PeerBlock. It was both a firewall and a TCP viewer. It was
easier to use as you could see if the connection was incoming or outgoing, and
it would show attempted connections that were refused. They claim that version
1.2 works with Win7, but I've never gotten it to work. Their blog page is dead.
