I have spent the last day and a half in Bratislava, my first-ever visit here.
As with the other big cities of this part of Europe, it is fascinating blend of
new and old, with evidence of a sometimes painful history but also the huge and
positive changes since the liberation from communism in 1989. I was here to
speak at a conference but fortunately it ended around lunchtime yesterday, so I
had most of the afternoon and the entire evening to myself. I walked many km
and saw many beautiful and interesting things which will form a gallery in due
course, but in the meantime here are three people pictures from yesterday’s
walk.

Customers, Scottish pub on Michalská street. These guys really impressed me; I
had popped in for the last pint of the evening (a wonderful black Slovak beer)
and a light dinner, and ran into these guys—about 6 hours after having seen
them in an outdoor café, downing pints already then. I admire their stamina:
