It sure does work Moose :-)
Yes. It's easy to think that the way things worked is still true, but in tech stuff, it ain't necessarily so. It relates
back to your recent post about the downside of digital and changing systems and the learning curves.
How does it compare with auto-iso?
Much as a raven compares with a writing desk. ;-)
I shoot almost always in A mode, and mostly with Auto ISO (with a cap), letting the smarts of the camera select the
combination of shutter speed and ISO.
To use ISO invariance, I set negative EV compensation. My default for years has been -2/3 EV, but I've been lately
leaning toward more.
Both in term of final result, and length (cumbersomeness? should the word
exist) of processing?
Everything I did to my example file to raise the shadows and tame the highlights is just three sliders in ACR or the LR
Develop Module. Takes a few seconds. Limiting the effect to a gradient is a few seconds in PS, add mask, apply gradient.
I have no idea how or whether one might do that in LR. A minute to process in PS, certainly no more than two. Setting up
the roll-over demo is much more time consuming.:-)
Yes, cumbersomeness is a word, although it suffers somewhat from the condition
it describes.
