An odd parallel here, Chris, but substitute "E-M1" for "E-M1 ii" - I didn't
need the features the newer camera(s) had .... and it was MUCH MUCH less
expensive. I echo your words about the vertical grip, but cannot speak for the
balance with the m4/3 Pro lenses, as I have no m4/3 lenses at all. But it sits
very nicely indeed with the 4/3 14-42 and 40-150 ED lenses, as also with 50-250
and 70-300. I have yet to get to grips (!) with 14-35 and 35-100 on this
diminutive body - but I hope you can see why I have no m4/3 lenses!
In short, I wanted to get into m4/3 with a pro body capable of AF on 4/3
lenses, and the E-M! was much more affordable, and does indeed work just as
well for me. As you might have guessed.

Subject: Re: [OM] OM-D E-M1X
A couple months ago, I bought an OM-D E-M1 Mark II to go along with my Pen-F
(the micro 4/3 Pen-F, not the old film Pen-F). I also bought the vertical grip
for it, which makes it about the same size as the E-M1X. I chose the E-M1-II
over the E-M1X because I didn't need the features the newer camera had, which
seem mostly oriented for sports and wildlife work, and E-M1 Mark II was MUCH
less expensive. The main thing I wanted was the weather proofing, which I
really wish the Pen-F had.
I have two of the Pro lenses, the 7-14mm f2.8 and the 12-40mm f2.8. They
balance better on the E-M1-II than the Pen-F, and I like the vertical grip. I
rarely use the Pen-F anymore. I don't regret choosing the less expensive
E-M1-II over the E-M1X though. If you want to get into Micro 4/3 with a pro
body, the E-M1-II is much more affordable and will probably work just as well
for you.

So, over the past couple of days, I've had the unfortunate experience
of spending time in a camera store that is very well stocked with
Olympus and Panasonic doodads.
Including the OM-D E-M1X (insert more letters here).
Unfortunate, because now I'm wanting one.
For those of you who haven't seen one in the flesh yet, be prepared to
be surprised. From the pictures, I thought it would be huge and heavy.
But in reality, it's quite the opposite. I would say that the size and
weight is absolutely near perfect. The camera with the pro lenses is
about as perfectly balanced as I've ever experienced. It's the new
modern incarnation of the E-1/14-54 combo. Only significantly lighter.
Most importantly, not only is the weight right, but the overall
balance is right. Just like the E-1/14-54 combo. I believe that
Olympus lost their way with the E-3 and they've never gotten it right
(even with every other OM-D variation) until now. This really is a
VERY VERY nice camera.
And those PRO lenses? Yum.
The only saving grace is that I don't have money for said gear so I'm
able to walk out of the store without too much difficulty.
For now.
