A funny story about this scene. Back in 1977 I visited Paris, and I was
taking a photo from almost this exact spot. I was using my Kodak Retina IIA
and a hand-held light meter. A fellow walked up to me and pointed at the light
meter, and then his camera. He had a Retina III. He needed a light meter
reading. He was Italian and didn't speak any French. I didn't speak any
Italian. But we both understood numbers in German. So, at the top of the
Italian Steps I gave this Italian fellow a light meter reading in German.
