Wow! Physics at 13? Glad I didn't go to school where ever you are, or I might
not have made it out of high school.
But, if you think that the American schools are going to teach metric sooner
than our current system, you're sadly mistaken. That would derail the constant
decline in our schools. Don't forget, we are hell bent to elect politicians
that are at the least anti intellectual and at worst dumb and proud of it. I
don't have the latest count, but for quite a few years, lasting at least into
this century, the far west, intensely rural parts of our state elected two
members of our state legislature that had not gone past the 9th grade.

You are absolutely correct there :) I did not state that there was any
benefit to the USA population in changing... ...but that wasn't really
my point, my post was intended as more observational on the US's already
very sound relationship with metric, Australia's conversion experience
and some of the lingering things hanging over 45 years down the track.

Education in the metric measurement system is all done and dusted by age
8 here (and when the kids hit things like physics at age 13 they are
already fully conversant in the base units- saving at least one
subject-semester), so you may have just suggested one example of how
conversion could ultimately benefit the USA population. :)
Leg-pulling aside, (and another observation) I find it interesting that
it seems to have been important enough for a number of US
administrations at both state and federal levels to explore, spend a LOT
of $ implementing, only to inexplicably* stop the process suddenly and
quietly.
*Is this where we should look for an Illuminati conspiracy? :)
Viva la difference... I guess!
