It may be that many carriers are blocking advertising at the system level,
but that's certainly not the case here. It got to the point where I couldn't
compose a simple text message without being interrupted.
If I try to uninstall Google Chrome, I get an error message telling me
that doing so would compromise other functions. Same with Google Play, and it
cannot be disabled. Nor can other Google apps. I guess that's the price we
have to pay for Google owning Android.
I've gone to a lot of trouble keeping Google out of the laptops, the only
exception being an earlier version of Google Earth on an XP machine.
