The shot of the engine is pleasing, Jim. I like the precision of engines and
the jet engine is more exposed than piston types, I reckon. I can’t find any
reference to what is on the fin; it looks quite small for a radar, but I
suppose it could be for some sort of navigational or approach aid.
The beacon has a nickname in the USAF but I can’t remember it. In the RAF we
used to call it the Pundit and it flashed a two-letter code in Morse to
identify the airfield. I seem to remember that in the US the rotating beacon
was switched on if the airfield was operating IFR as well as at night.
