> Chains, studded tires, or regular deep tread snow tires recommended ?
Regular snow tires. Studs help on ice, but nearly every vehicle is
equipped with snow tires. They do make a tire that is even better for
arctic conditions as the rubber remains pliable at a much colder
temperature. That said, it is pretty typical for most of the vehicles
up there to be carrying chains just in case, but rarely used.
The Dalton Highway is speed restricted to 50 MPH. And on restricted
roads of Prudhoe Bay, the speeds are lower. Regardless, what amazes me
is how well maintained the roads are up there. But they are critical
logistics roads.
