Having a "locked" cell phone is a bit like having a vehicle that only
runs on either petrol or diesel. The locked phone is only operative on
the network to which the phone is dedicated. Here in Canada one can get
a locked phone unlocked for a token amount now that the Federal
government has legislated against the continuation of locking by
carriers who wish to recover the cost of subsidized phones by denying
the portability of the phone number to another carrier.

I have access to everything, and I have installed a number of apps as well as modify a few settings. If I try to make a phone call, I get a dial tone, ringing, and then a message saying that the account cannot be verified. Sounds a lot like it's not locked and all I need to do is a SIM transplant. Then I can call this a Frankenphone.I just finished an online chat with TracFone. My LG420 is a 2G device, and that may very well be the problem as nobody supports that format and there is no AT&T SIM available. TracFone still supports 3G, and if that "donated" ZTE817 is or can be unlocked than I can get a SIM card from TracFone and use it. That will keep me out of trouble for the rest of the day. Maybe. It's a nice phone provided I turn off the wifi when cycling around or I get Cox advertising every time I get near one of their wifi hubs.Chris When the going gets weird, the weird turn pro - Hunter S.
