If anyone is interested to see mirror lenses compared via test charts, here's
some that I've done recently:
https://www.mu-43.com/threads/best-hand-holdable-400mm-option.99505/page-2#post-1179889
Synopsis: the Olympus OM 500mm f8 Reflex, even with the Olympus 2XA
teleconverter, beats other mirror lenses of equal or longer focal length, even
when they have a focal reducer behind them.
The closest competitor was the OM 600mm f6.5, which unlike the 500/8, is *NOT*
"hand holdable," although it does have an adjustable aperture and an extra
quarter stop of light, and lacks the characteristic "donut bokeh" of the 500/8.
And yes, Moose, this "proves" nothing, except that if you are shooting
something from about ten metres away on a summer evening, the 500/8 is the one
to pick. And that test charts don't move in the wind. :-)
