<<That's a great shot! The only thing that you might complain about is the OOF
back side antenna. Colors are fine and the bands are clear and sharp. I
realize that you are more of a perfectionist than I, but I would call it a
<<successful mission.
Thanks Jim. It was a 50 min drive and an hour hike for a low likelihood of even
finding one. I was astounded when it showed up.
I was impressed how resolution was possible with a CU diopter built for a
shorter FL lens. The lens was stopped down and I tried to keep the B'fly
central and have it placed where I wanted after a gentle crop, to
optimize IQ with the diopter. I had waay too much trouble with blur at least
in part from AF issues. Perhaps a different mode would have been better. I
wish Oly had a firmware patch allowing the IS to take into account a diopter,
but that is clearly too much to hope for. I had to stay under the max SS and
didn't dare go over 1/200 for a non system flash. That might have been an
issue as well given the magnification. Minimum handholding speed should be a
function of the FL of the diopter and the mag before accounting for effects of
the IS system. What I don't know if it is possible to consistently hand hold
that combo at 1/200 at about 1:2 to 1:1 (equiv) mag. I took a few practice
shots in the house and it seemed OK, but 4 test shots only get you so far.
Then there is the unplanned for adrenergic effects of trying to photograph a
never been seen before handsome critter.
