That's not quite true. The old-style paper pound notes (5 and 10) are no
longer valid - you have to use the new polymer notes. I think the Bank of
England will exchange old for new, but not sure what you do if you have a
fistful of paper ones and you're not in the UK.

So my wife the Activity Director has been planning our next visit to
Scotland (2019). She managed to get pounds when the exchange was
favorable. Yea Brexit! ;) Anyway now we are reading that the 5 and 10
pound notes are going away. She has a couple hundred in small bills to
get us by for taxi or train etc. when we first arrive. What are our
options for exchanging these small bills now? Will we be able to
exchange them at a bank in another year? Options?
