Kinda going backwards in time this month. This was a short 1/2 day hike
to a close location combined with a Costco run. October in the PacNW is
a transition month. Sept is one of the driest months, Nov is the
wettest. So October is a series of storms interspersed with beautiful
weather. The 26th was the beginning of a beautiful stretch following a
nasty bit. We arrived at the trailhead at the beginning of a SAR
operation. Apparently a pickup parked here belonged to a young man
missing for a week. This was the first day weather permitted a practical
ground search. A homeland security chopper equipped with IR an other
tech was being diverted from border duty and we watched from the summit
as it searched. A team on the summit was relaying messages to the
various parties and command post in the parking lot. Officially this was
a rescue mission but given the weather it was unofficially a
recovery...which it turned out to be. The body was found that afternoon.
Photos include the hike and returning home.
