Special effects?
I think they could be useful in multi-flash situations, but I would have a hard
time imagining them in single-flash situations, except for some special effect.
For multi-flash, it can be nice to have a low-powered coloured flash to warm or
cool a shot. In the studio, you’d use gel filters over strobes that were
dialled-down 2-3 stops from the main light in order to simulate cool morning
light or warm evening light, for example.
