Hmmm, that reminds me of an ignominious mistake of mine, on my first tour.
I was doing the external checks for a night trip in a Jaguar and I got to the
filler cap; I wasn’t used to the NATO connector and so when I felt for the cap
and it didn’t feel right I thought it was my lack of experience with the
system. It turned out that the cap had not been fitted. I lost no fuel, as
the system had an integral NRV, but I lost the cap somewhere not long after
takeoff.
I felt like a fruitcake :~0
