Unfortunately, it's a little more sinister than that. The NAV system
is the primary system control computer for the vehicle. Every single
function controlled by buttons, levers, pedals and knobs go through
that thing. A hacker could theoretically cause shifting, steering,
braking issues. Make the windows go up and down, ventilation system to
do weird things. Even shut the vehicle down. As the system is also
location aware, a hacker could cause the vehicle to not function right
at certain intersections. And the list goes on and on and on...
In the Jeep hack, brakes were disabled and steering wheel was moved.
(lane-assist equipped).
