I am spending the weekend in Wrocław in south-western Poland, visiting my
sister for a couple of days before flying home this afternoon. Yesterday, we
drove about 30 km south to the village of Zachowice to visit Winnica Adoria, a
vineyard owned by a transplanted American (due to his Polish wife) from
Washington state. I was familiar with the wines thanks to a previous online
purchase (based on a recommendation from a Polish economist at the OECD), so I
took advantage of the good weather to pay him a visit.
This is the kind of landscape in which the winery is located:

I bought 3 bottles and then took an environmental portrait of Mike. He and his
wife live in a nice house right in the winery:

Mike spoke quite good Polish, having already lived here for many years, with a
charming US accent. And he makes really good wines. Poland is obviously not
known as a wine country, and the quantities produced are nothing in comparison
with more southern countries, but the quality is good and Mike’s wines have
done very well in international competitions. This is just about the only good
thing about climate change, that the world’s wine growing regions expand.
Meeting people like Mike is one of the great pleasures of travelling.
Cheers,
Nathan
