Ken, it really would be interesting to know what kind of deductible you had
with your plan, as what you hear is they are all so high that the healthy
"insured" essentially has no coverage. Unfortunately, when a snoopy person like
me tries to find out the real story by going to the website, you can only get
the numbers by actually giving them all your information and applying for
coverage.
I've been covered by Medicare for the last 6+ years and although that works
with providers who accept Medicare, not all do and some who do only accept a
certain number of medicare or new medicare patients. For those who think that
Medicare offers an inexpensive insurance plan, they may have a surprise
awaiting them. I am not knocking the program, however like most things run by
the government, it is not perfect. To be covered for doctors visits, hospital
and prescription medications and have a supplement to cover some of the gaps,
you will spent relatively big dollars and only have coverage within the USA.
There are also relatively high penalties for delaying the purchase of coverage
beyond the point where one first becomes eligible or for having an retirement
income which reflects prudent stewardship of your finances during your working
years.
Unlike Obamacare, anyone can go to the Medicare website and see exactly what
the coverages and deductibles are for both Medicare and Medicare Supplement
policies and can compare Part D coverages for prescription medications.
As the folks in Washington struggle to figure out what might be a better
solution for providing for health care for Americans, I hope they don't use the
same smoke and mirrors used when selling the Obamacare program. I'm not too
comfortable that they won't.

I would have let this slide by with no comment from me, but this whole
bit of stupidity on Capital Hill has me quite perturbed, as I discover
that I spent $19,000 last year on health care for four healthy
individuals and ZERO contribution from any insurance.
The debate in Washington is highly disingenuous on both sides. The
discussion is about "Access to Health Insurance", when the discussion
should be about "Access to Health Care". When the discussion is about
insurance and not care, you know that every politician in Washington,
regardless of party, is bought and sold by the insurance companies and
the health industry mafia.
And the entire cash-cow of insurance lobbiests revolves around Schumer
and Pelosi, so they are as even as evil as Trump and Ryan in this.
And that $19,000 didn't even include $5000 for hearing aids!
