This is our sixth brood in about 5 years, and twelve ducklings per brood
seems typical for this particular variety (we've seen from ten to
thirteen), but the online resources say only about 20% live past 2 years
of age.
Their fledging and leaving is a little bittersweet, though (not that we
get too close- we want them to have some natural wariness), but we enjoy
being the nursery :)
We decided that this mother is likely from one of our previous broods,
because when #2 son put out the usual plastic wading pool for them, she
was standing in it before he was back with the hose.
