Examining the feedback from my ant posting, I decided I needed better
ant photos, but did not want to get too up close and personal with
them. I first tried a closeup AF lens, but didn't like the results. I
then pulled out my Pentax 135 MF lens and got results that I could
enlarge. While colors are unreliable in the sun, and the objects are
small, the shapes and sizes convince me that these are, indeed, fire ants.
There is a U-Tube video online that shows what happens when one sticks a
shovel into a fire ant mound. These behave exactly the same to much
smaller intrusions.
