David,
I run Windows 7 on my Dell desktop. A few weeks ago, I noticed that
Chrome was continually working my hard drive. I went back to Firefox
Ver. 50.0 and most of the activity disappeared. My McAfee scans did not
find a problem at the time.
While running Chrome, the activity was so prevalent that the computer
quit going into "Sleep" mode.
Just a thought..............

I use a Thinkpad T410 laptop running Windows 7. Lately I have noticed
that there seems to be a lot of activity going on which seems to
disrupt the proper operations. Ads appearing in abundance, browsers
freezing, a "securesearch" bar appears at the top of my Chrome page
when I try to type into the Google search bar. I think my whole system
needs to be spring cleaned soonest.
I have Microsoft Security Essentials running and I also run System
Mechanic. I would welcome any authoritative advice in plain English
(or plain American) to help me to properly interrogate and identify
any illegal aliens in my system, destroy same and implement a robust
security; thereafter optimise the darn thing.
Many thanks
David
