Maybe - of course works for automatic watches as you don't need a battery, my
Omegas have been accurately ticking for free for over 40 years now.
But this doesn't not apply to powered vehicles or appliances, whatever the
source of energy, newer products all use less of it, and we all know resource
is finite.
