It is indeed a funny place, Nathan; I’m not that keen on the apes, but that
shot of the stroll down through trees with the sea in view is rather good.
I’ve taken off from Gib without ATC clearance (in a Jaguar). This was a more
than normally serious offence given the relations with Spain and the
constriction on air traffic at the time (1981). And a colleague met his wife
there while he was on detachment to the RAF station there: he was lying in a
stupor in the gutter of the runway, she was a police officer investigating . . .
