Yes, we enjoyed our visit very much, even though it was slightly hectic.
As we're in NA, we tried to see all the key sites in the time available.
We tried to stayed in places we wanted to see, so we got the afternoon
and evenings to visit (and eat). Of the places of interest we visited,
only Braga was a 'bust', as the sites we wanted to see were closed for
renovation. So, we ended up spending more time in Guimaraes, which was
delightful. My wife wanted to stay in a castle, so we treated ourselves
to the posada in Estremoz for one night.
We used the autoroutes to get from Lisbon to Porto, and from Lagos back
to Lisbon to save time. There were a couple of other stretches where we
used toll roads (all of which are automated as we had a chipped device
in the rental car).
I should do something with some of my photos..... You'd certainly
recognize many of the places.

Looks like a nice tour you did too.
Lots of visits in common - I just posted postcards of Coimbra. But we never had
to pay for any toll, north of Lisboa. Even the ultra long bridge heading south
was free. We must have been lucky, or taking the smaller roads :-)
Any pointer to your own photos Martin?

Lamago hosts a number of cathedrals, churches and monasteries. It is also one
of the better places to stay (variety of hotels) in the Douro region. We did a
quick morning tour, but did not climb the stairs shown in Philippe's photograph.
We spent two weeks in Portugal in late September 2015, and can certainly
recommend a number of interesting places to visit away from the Algarve. Aside
from Lisbon/Sintra and Cas Cais, which was an organized tour, we rented a car
and visited Obidos, Fatima, Coimbra, Aviero, Porto, Braga, Guimaraes, Estremoz,
Evora and Monsaraz, before spending several days in Lagos in the Algarve. By
the time we got to Lagos, we were satiated with castles, cathedrals/churches
and monasteries.
Portugal is not a big country and the main roads had little traffic when we
were there (if you don't mind paying the numerous tolls). It's the visits that
take the time. Most of the places of interest are eminently walkable.

We are now contemplating an up country drive from the south coast to the north

Philippe's images are outstanding.
