I've just checked in
the same conditions in which I took that photo. It is strongly back-lit.
To the naked eye, the white petals (of which each flower has a whole
whorl) show NO detail when viewed into the sun.
The cropped image
above is an accurate rendition of what was in front of the camera, and
in fact shows more detail of those petals than the eye can see in real
life.
So I'm happy with that, without falsifying the shot.
