I normally shoot in aperture preferred mode and usually "expose to the 
right" and adjust final exposure in PS.  Using exposure compensation is 
only when I'm shooting quickly.   In bright conditions it's usually set 
for -2/3 but on very rare lighting conditions I have gone the full + or 
- 3 stop limits.
