Because it gets very expensive if you want a 50mm eq 1.4 (or other fast
glass)
They (Canon as well) want you to buy a $1800 35mm 1.4 (Canon vII)
Or if you want 35mm 1.4, a $1450 24mm 1.4 (Canon vII).
Solid reasons for me.
I wouldn't be surprised if it is a marketing concept to encourage you to
upgrade to full-frame. The zooms are more expensive there as well ;-)
