When I became a US citizen in 1987, the test (administered verbally in Florida)
contained the following questions:
- name the President of the US
- name the governor of Florida
- name one of the two senators from Florida
To document my command of English, I was asked to write down the following
sentence: “I work for an electric company” (I was indeed working for Seminole
Electric Cooperative in Tampa at the time).
